“Gonzalo Guevara is building an escalator to nowhere.
The skilled welder is standing on an elevated platform in an industrial North Sarasota building, putting together long pieces of precisely curved steel tubing that will someday carry people up flights of stairs, landings and turns.
The curved chair lift is one of the more elaborate pieces of equipment created by Sarasota-based company Harmar’s more than 200 employees. All of its products do the same thing in different ways: They help people live full lives despite trouble walking or climbing by helping them overcome obstacles and by enabling them to bring their wheelchairs or scooters with them when traveling by car or truck.”
